“Sihina Piyapath” is one of a volunteering project conducted on 4th January 2020. The project addressed some of the basic objectives towards giving the school supplies for a rural school A/Ilandagahawewa vidyalaya, in a peaceful village called Elayapaththuwa, which is situated 18km away from Anuradhapura district. The village school has only about 160 regular students, from the age group of 1 to 11 grades. All in all, a new school term had begun and SLIIT Leos aimed to help struggling parents cope with one of the most expensive responsibilities they face on this period. Buying new school supplies has been a burden to many of them and majority of the school student’s families are agriculture workers who are overwhelming school expenses.
This is the reason why SLIIT Leos expected to give away several numbers of exercise books and school bags that they don’t need to burden themselves anymore with additional expenses as the school year approached. Not only that, LEO club of SLIIT sparked children’s’ excitement new school year, helped to extend these tokens of joy to hundreds of rural students & inspire them as they gear up for another year of learning, through this precious project.
In order to full fill this dream on 4th January, 22 Leo members were arrived from Malabe SLIIT, and reached to Anuradhapura at 9.30am.The project started 10.00 am with the participation of Lion Dr. Susitha Senarathne and Lion Rohan Gunathilake. The school principal, teachers, students and their parents warmly welcomed participated Lions and Leos. Welcome speech has done by the school principal. Afterwards Lion Dr.Susitha Senarathne and project chairperson Sasindu Senanayake addressed the gathering. After that bags and stationary items were distributed to all the students. On the other hand, LEO club of SLIIT dissolved another immense problem; the school had faced in handling the morning assembly as they were not available with proper sound system. So SLIIT LEOs supported the school from a basic renovation of the facility to provide a sound system with buffers to enhance the students’ capabilities.
Finally one of the school student and a parent remarked their gratitude by addressed the gathering and winded up the morning ceremony. The school served refreshments to all the participated Lions and Leos. The project chairperson thanked all the participated 22 Leos for giving their time, their energy, and generous hearts to success the project. Eventually all the participated members continued to drive again to SLIIT by SLIIT bus approximately around 2:00 pm. The event successfully concluded and at about 8 pm SLUT bus reached to SLUT.
